Brushed Wild
The Turning Season
They stand among yellow leaves,
as the air grows thin,
and temperatures fall
day by day.
The largest of this wild place,
They fear little for now.
But seasons shift,
And winter will take hold.
They must not falter,
must not fall lame
In the deepening snow.
For that would be their undoing.
Their size keeps danger distant,
Yet weakness draws it near.
Predators wait,
silent and sure.
For now, their worries are few.
They graze,
They rest,
They dream in the fading light.
