Comments: On the bridge above Victoria Falls to Zimbabwe to Zambia, we met a couple of local women from Zambia carrying boxes of fruits and groceries balanced on their heads. Traveling back to their families village after gathering food. One of the women had her baby strapped to her chest while they were breastfeeding. We walked, made art, and talked across the bridge with Naomi and Brenda until we reached the immigration checkpoint. I thought to myself, you can make art anywhere in the world, with anyone if you realize the present and what happening right in front of you. All of it is special, it is life, it is infinite choices. To meet and create with these women on their way home from work was what the spirit of the project and the moment urged me to do. When shooting portraits, I am really feeling into the moment more than I am seeing what is outside. It is an energy, an idea, that arrives, that feels deeply familiar. That feeling of intuition is a deep knowing, and to trust that force is for me part of the art and using the limitations of 24 hour to find someone to make a portrait with, and in those 10 seconds create a work that will last a lifetime. Under those confines, I attempt to open my eyes and observe. See who is around, what is the light conditions, where is this place, who are the people, how to represent culture, does my camera have enough film or battery. It's all a beautiful recipe of creation. It is being in the present moment, and making a photo or a video of someone not only honors that time forevermore, it is the noticing of and acknowledging others existence. The beauty of the light that reflects on them and into the camera. Is an honor. To see the light in others, to make something meaningful, to make the present moment count every second thereafter. Creation is the greatest connection to the power of love. To create is to love something into existence from the ether. To create with others is to respect their being and see them with kind eyes as they are and aim to be. At the end of the day, we are all human and we are all one and the same. The singularity of consciousness is the understanding that we as humans are all animals alike. We love to love, we love to eat, we love to be with family, we work and try to love what we do. We sleep, we all just want to be loved and belong. The bridge to Zim to Zam is where the heart remembers. The answers to all our questions are already inside of us. We just have to walk the line of getting their from the in between of self doubt and confidence. The bridge to who we are and who we want to become. We cross it with one foot in front of the other, as long it may need to take. Take action to move. Take each step, to continue. In this present moment; On the path somewhere between both sides of beginning and the end, you will meet your past and future self.
