Title: April 3rd - 09:49 Medium: Super-8 film Aspect Ratio: 4:3 Resolution: 2880 x 2160 File Type: H.264 Codec / MP4. Comments: On our last day in Zimbabwe, Simon and I visited Christopher's family at his home. his children and all the kids from his neighborhood gathered on his patio. We were making art and teaching the kids how to make photographs and polaroids. I let the kids take over my Polaroid camera and photograph one another until all the film ran out, I had about 3 packs to go through since there was only 4 days left in the project now. Christopher's brothers daughters, who happen to be identical twins, stood in the doorway. All the children waited and waved out front of Christopher's family house. They ran towards my camera and danced around in utter joy and excitement. There were dozens of them laughing and screaming. It is the little things us together. The way a camera can change someone's life, to inspire them to become an artist. Perhaps, we were all born artists. Being taught how to create is a skill that can be refined from the brink of a playful youth all the way to a serious practice in adulthood. Art frees us from the world, and even from ourselves. Sometimes we need that little push, and awareness that something like art is possible, or exists. Sometimes you carve out your own path that was never possible until you did it yourself. We need to show the youth they are capable of anything they can dream of. To learn from our mistakes , and successes. We need a generation of dreamers instead of worker bees. For them to bring in new ideas and innovative technology to sustain and regenerate the world, to build the future and explore the universe. It's funny, the youth will always be the ones to shape the future, while we are too busy living to remember the past. So believe in them! Give them a chance to lead. Learn from them, and what they are interested in. To not fall behind. To keep that curiosity and learning alive, because when your brain stops growing and your mind starts slowing all that is left is already gone. Keep that inner child alive. Don't forget to laugh, and play, and enjoy this life. Because art is where the kid part of you that never went away when you grow up. Art with others is connection to each other and the world. A language, a dance, a way of living with one another on this planet.
