THE CHILD I LEFT BEHIND
They told me I was mature for my age.
They called me strong.
Responsible.
Wise beyond my years.
And I believed them.
So I learned to stay quiet when I needed comfort.
I learned to understand problems that were never meant for someone so young.
I learned to carry the weight of other people's expectations before I even understood my own dreams.
While other children were learning how to play, I was learning how to survive.
And everyone was so proud of me.
Nobody noticed that every responsibility I carried was another piece of childhood I would never get back.
Years passed.
I became the person everyone needed.
But somewhere beneath everything I had become, there was still a small, empty place.
A chair waiting for a child who never got the chance to sit down.
Sometimes, I imagine reaching for that child.
I want to tell them they don't have to be strong today.
That they can cry without explaining why.
That they can make mistakes.
That the world was never supposed to rest on their shoulders.
But no matter how close my hand gets, I can never reach them.
Because time doesn't return what it takes.
And growing older doesn't mean you've stopped grieving the years you lost.
**Everyone was proud of how quickly I grew up.**
**Nobody asked what it cost me.**
And perhaps the saddest part of becoming everything everyone needed…
**Was never getting the chance to become myself.**
