I Gave You Everything That Was Me
I thought loving you meant keeping you safe.
So I built you a home inside the parts of me that were still whole.
I gave you my peace when your world was falling apart.
My strength when you couldn't stand.
My patience when you had none left.
And every time something inside me began to break, I gave you another piece.
I told myself it was love.
I told myself that one day, when you were finally okay, there would still be enough of me left to recognize.
But slowly, my hands became unfamiliar.
My reflection became a stranger.
Even my face began to disappear.
And still, I kept building.
I made sure the walls were beautiful.
I made sure nothing could reach you.
I made sure you would never feel the emptiness I was carrying.
Then one day, you left.
No goodbye could explain the silence that followed.
The sanctuary remained.
Every arch. Every thread. Every piece of myself I had used to keep it standing.
All perfectly preserved.
Except the person I built it for.
And the cruelest part?
Even after you were gone, I kept holding everything together.
Because I had forgotten how to exist without protecting you.
**I gave you everything that was me.**
**And you left me with a place where you used to be.**
