About the Artworks
In Absence Of ___ is a series of eleven works by Ayla El-Moussa that sit between photography and painting. Drawing on the Rückenfigur tradition of the solitary figure absorbed into landscape, the series marks a turn inward for El-Moussa: quieter than her earlier works, and made, by her own account, from instinct rather than research.
