The water was so still that morning it felt rude to make a sound. Clouds were piled up over the hills, and a thin beam of light kept slipping through them, sliding across the mountains and down onto the lake. Out in the middle of it all, one person in a small boat, just drifting. I watched for a long time. A few birds crossed the sky, and nothing else moved. The whole scene made me think about how rarely we let ourselves go slowly, with nowhere to be and no reason to hurry. I called it Silent Sojourn because that’s what it felt like: a short trip away from everything, and a reminder that the quiet is still out there when you need it. 1/1 digital artwork.
