The snow had just started falling when I stopped here, big soft flakes drifting past like they had all the time in the world. The valley was swallowed in cloud, the mountains were fading in and out of the white, and a thin river kept cutting through it all, cold and blue and completely unbothered. Far off on the left, a road clung to the mountainside with a few tiny vehicles crawling along it. That was the only sign anyone else existed. It made the whole place feel even bigger, and me even smaller, and I liked that. it never felt loud, even though the mountains were huge.
