Comments: It was our last day in Bulawayo. Jenifa was our wonderful host that works with Jordans family. She woke up at sunrise to start her day with us. Some time during the week I asked if she would like to be in the art project before we left back to Victoria Falls. Jenifa was all dressed up for her close up the morning we departed; Everything was rich with greenery! A couple days before, there was unbeknownst to me a serious break in to the house. Jordan and Simon kept quiet about it until we left the house back on the road to Victoria Falls. I was stunned that they did not tell me when it happened. It was 2 in the morning, Simon said he heard a metal rumbling in the kitchen so went to check it out. He saw 5 min outside breaking through the window after pulling off the gated window. He grabbed a club and started whacking the man entering through the window and he jumped back outside and shooing them away. Funny enough, Simon and the thieves saw my lights turn on in the hallway and heard me unlock my bedroom door as I walked to use the toilet for a late night pee. They all froze what they were doing until I was done and went back in my room, and Simon continued on to fight them through the window until they scurried away in defeat. It was one of those, oh best not he doesn't know scenarios. I was pissed when I found out they didn't tell me about the home invasion when it happened. Thats I realized why we started to have armed guards for the rest of our stay. I thought to myself, well fuck, I have all the film from this project sitting in this pelican case, which is the only thing of value I had with me. All the exposed footage I had shot and 4 cameras; A polaroid, a Rolleiflex, and my day and night super 8 cameras, and a fuck ton of film. Thankfully Simon scared them off, otherwise I would have had to fight my life to keep that film safe from harm. It was funny too as there was only a week left of the project, and Thank the lord we were saved and safe from evil doers. As silly as it may sound, I felt divinely protected doing this project no matter where we went. Call me naive, but I had faith every step of the way, even when things turned dark. The light founds it way through and flowed like white lighting through all the beauty and all the hardships. Trust, not everything will be easy, but you will learn a thing or two along the way.
