Comments: Footprints write short stories in sand.
By noon they’re gone.
loving too fast,
dreams too big.
Santa Monica begins in light.
Not the loud, burning blaze of the afternoon
but that soft and misty marine layer glow,
like a quiet secret waiting to be told.
The pier hovers over the waves
as if it’s asking the ocean a question.
Ferris wheel turning slow with a handful of tourists and lovers,
the neon lights shining against salt air,
laughter riding through the wind
watching the gulls stealing fries and bread bowls
There’s an order here.
Bike paths flow like measured lines.
Joggers chasing better versions of themselves.
Yoga mats unrolling at sunrise
Silent discos raving on the shore
Sunglasses hide both fame and failure.
And yet, throughout it all,
the same restless water
that touches Venice
touches here too.
When the sun drops,
the sky dissolves.
Pink becomes gold,
gold fades black.
Like breath after noise.
by sea wind and long afternoons.
the Pacific keeps whispering
the same thing it has always said:
Keep going.
