CHATTER 36D6. A unique work from CONTAMINATION. These are the keys of a computer keyboard, seen from close enough that the surface becomes the subject: ribs, arches, lamellae, grilles, vents, corrosions, cables, rings. Structures, never objects to recognise. One HTML file. There is no image inside it: the work is the code, and it draws itself in the browser while you watch. The light is not painted. It is computed per pixel. The alpha channel of the drawing is a height field: the filter reads the slopes out of it and lights them, with a distant light that holds the whole plate and a point light that walks across it. What you are looking at is relief, not shading. There is no black ground. The ramp of the material never reaches black: the shadow is a deep saturated tint and the light is another one. The colour is not an event, it is the regime. The sound is born inside the file and generated in sync with the movement. Every element that moves is a key being struck: if one thing moves you hear one key, if a hundred move you hear a hundred keys. Five keyboards, MECCANICA, MEMBRANA, PORTATILE, TASTIERINO, BARRA, and when a piece remakes itself its keyboard changes too. No soundtrack and no loop: what you hear is what is happening. It is not a loop. It does not repeat: it regenerates, endlessly. No frame is identical to another, and the work never returns to itself.
