DIE 0C55
DIE 0C55. A unique work from CONTAMINATION.
Up close the image reads like an open chip, a die photographed under
the microscope: blocks of memory that build and destroy themselves,
writing over what was already there.
One HTML file. There is no image inside it: the work is the code,
and it draws itself in the browser while you watch.
The colours are not painted. They come from thin-film interference,
the same physics that turns a film of petrol on wet asphalt green
and violet: light splits on a layer a few hundred nanometres thick,
and the thickness decides the colour. Here that layer is computed
frame by frame.
The seed is fixed: 0x0C5522ED. Everything you see comes out of that
one number. The engine has no loop and no end, and never returns to
a state it has already passed through. What is on the screen now has
never been there before, and will not be there again.
