The Knight’s Tournament
In the Late Middle Ages, courtly frescoes exalted the ideals of knighthood and aristocracy. Tournaments, hunts, and ceremonial processions depicted valor, loyalty, and the codes of chivalric love. Painted across castle walls, these secular cycles mirrored the prestige of noble patrons, blending Gothic elegance with an increasing attention to naturalism that foreshadowed the Renaissance. They were not only decoration but affirmations of power, status, and refined culture. This work recalls the buon fresco technique, with heraldic motifs, rhythmic patterns, and subdued yet harmonious tones. Pepe, clad in armor, rides among the knights, a parody of chivalric gravity that nevertheless respects the cadence and decorative splendor of Gothic pageantry
