Sacred Fresco Scene

In the Late Gothic period, churches and chapels were transformed into vast narrative spaces. Frescoes unfolded biblical stories, miracles, and lives of saints across entire walls, guiding the faith of largely illiterate audiences. While still stylized, these images began to embrace depth, emotion, and individuality, anticipating the naturalism of the Renaissance. They turned sacred interiors into immersive environments, where color and line became sermons in visual form. This piece recalls the buon fresco technique, with matte earthy tones, elegant contours, and solemn, contemplative figures. Pepe enters this painted assembly, a playful disruption that offsets devotion while preserving the fresco’s didactic force.
