In 1863, numerous accounts emerged of a mysterious sea creature, purportedly a colossal sea serpent, sighted off the coast of Gloucester, Massachusetts. Descriptions depicted it as over 100 feet long with a snake-like body and a horse-like head. Despite being a topic of fervent discussion in local newspapers, with suggestions ranging from misidentified whales to synchronized schools of fish, no physical evidence was found. The creature remained a part of maritime folklore during that era.
