Bartolomeu de Gusmão's Passarola
In 1709, Brazilian-Portuguese priest and inventor Bartolomeu de Gusmão presented the 'Passarola' to the court of King John V of Portugal. This innovative hot air balloon was one of the earliest concepts of human flight, marking a significant precursor to modern aviation. Although the Passarola was not practically implemented, it ignited interest and laid foundational ideas for future aeronautical developments, influencing engineers and inventors in subsequent centuries.
