Hedy Lamarr and Frequency-Hopping Spread Spectrum

In 1939, actress Hedy Lamarr and composer George Antheil invented frequency-hopping spread spectrum technology, initially aimed at creating an unjammable radio guidance system for torpedoes. This innovation involved rapidly switching radio frequencies to avoid interception. While not immediately used by the military, it eventually formed the basis for modern wireless communication, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Lamarr's pioneering work was later acknowledged as a pivotal contribution to telecommunications.
