The Last Dance
I knew he would come eventually.
I had watched the first light touch the heavens. I had seen worlds flourish beneath the stars and witnessed the things I loved slowly disappear. I suppose it was only a matter of time before Death came looking for me, too.
When I saw him standing among the ruins, I wasn’t afraid. There was nothing left to bargain for, Yet he held out his hand, I took it.
Beneath the dying moon, with the last stars disappearing above us, I let myself have that one moment, with death.
