Witness

Witness

In this portrait, I did not paint the war. I painted the trace it leaves behind. I deliberately chose the aesthetic of the Tudor period, because the grandeur and formal composure of that era intensify the quiet fracture within. The figure appears strong, balanced, almost immaculate. Yet in the eyes, there is the silent weight of a destruction witnessed in childhood. The faint shadow of a child behind the figure represents the fragile part that never truly grew up. While the gold textures and dark background evoke power and dignity, the subtle cracks across the surface whisper of inner collapse. With this work, I did not intend to depict conflict itself, but the burden of witnessing it. I wanted the gaze to remain unbroken. Because sometimes the deepest wound is the one that cannot be seen.
