#16 − An Evening With Grant Yun

Poster #16 − An Evening With Grant Yun Artist: Grant Yun Object: Selected Works Date: September 2023 There is a longstanding affinity between modernism and the American landscape. Clean lines, sharp shades, blank expanses. Such terrain explored by Ed Ruscha and David Hockney, a world that sought to start over from a clean slate, unburdened by tradition. Grant Yun continues this inquiry in the medium of digital art, turning his attention to the geometric patterns latent in architecture and topography. The works presented for the exhibition at glitch Gallery move between aerial views and architectural detail. Colour palettes are severely restrained, often separated by only a few hex values. Forms hover between representation and abstraction. The aesthetic draws on early computer graphics and virtual environments, lending the images a quality of memory or projection rather than direct observation. Paul Klee wrote that art does not reproduce what we see but makes us see. Yun's contribution is precisely this: the American landscape rendered visible through the logic of pixels and screens. The pleasure of the work lies in its clarity: a world reduced to its essential forms.
