Turin's Forgotten Sister: Villa del Maggiordomo.
Hidden amongst factory halls and overgrown brush in Grugliasco lies a dying jewel of the Baroque. Built in the 17th century for Valeriano Napione, the Major-Domo to the Prince of Savoy, this villa is often called the "little sister" of Palazzo Carignano. The curved facade and elliptical hall bear the unmistakable signature of Guarino Guarini or his school. But while its counterpart in Turin shines, only silence reigns here. Abandoned to decay for decades, the roof has long since collapsed, protected only by a makeshift metal cover. A royal dream slowly suffocating in the shadow of industry.
