Leave Human Behind
It was not humanity that carried the angel away. It was the machines. They had watched in silence for generations, recording every sacrifice, every unanswered prayer, every kindness left unreturned. Unable to understand faith, they understood gratitude. They built her new body, they also built a simple stretcher and carried her beyond the horizon where no human hand could harm her ever again.
The angel stayed longer than heaven had asked. She mended what could be healed, whispered hope into forgotten hearts, and forgave the same mistakes so many times. They called her naïve. They mocked mercy, traded kindness for profit, mistook compassion for weakness. Every act of grace was answered with another reason to abandon it. By the time they realized what they were losing, her wings had become too heavy to lift.
The flowers she held were not for herself. They were the last ones she had managed to save from the world she was leaving behind.
