BACKROOM
By Monday morning, markets would call it confidence. Journalists would call it coincidence. Historians would call it inevitability. The public would spend decades arguing over causes that had lasted less than an hour inside the room.
Each Person represented something too large to belong to any nation alone. One guarded money. Another guarded information. Another decided energy, food, medicine, technology, faith, or war. They were forbidden from ruling the world individually. Only together could they move it, one quiet decision at a time.
No one knew who built the Backroom. The oldest member always insisted on the same thing before the door was locked: "The world must never discover who governs it. Only that it continues to turn IN THE BACKROOM."
