MELMEDAS
Melmedas is a beautiful and deadly mythical being from the folklore of southern Iran. On Hormuz
Island, she is said to appear around sunset beneath a large konar tree near the salt valleys.
Adorned with precious jewels and long dark hair, she lures men with her beauty before revealing
her terrifying nature. In different local accounts, her legs or hands take the shape of sharp sickles
with which she kills her victims. Coastal traditions also describe her as a mermaid like figure who
lures solitary fishermen into the sea.
