Glossolalia
Glossolalia is a body of work drawn from my daily experimental practice, which combines digital techniques with physical media. Using scanners, found objects, and photographs of my oil paintings, I synthesize new artworks inspired by Carl Jung’s exploration of the unconscious. Every piece begins with a freeform divination game of word association, starting from a root word found through bibliomancy. Like glossolalia, the word-association game produces utterances before meaning. Each work is my attempt to express those utterances. Texture is central to the work, in both digital outputs and sourced physical media, and I use it to hold the tension between the familiar and the abstract.
