THE STRANGER I BECAME
# THE STRANGER I BECAME
*“I kept changing to survive. Until there was no one left to save.”*
There was a time when I knew who I was.
I knew what made me happy.
I knew what I wanted from life.
I knew the difference between the person I was and the person the world expected me to become.
But somewhere along the way, I started changing.
A little quieter for the people who thought I spoke too much.
A little stronger for the people who couldn't handle my weakness.
A little colder for the people who took advantage of my kindness.
A little less myself every time someone made me feel that who I was wasn't enough.
And I thought I was growing.
I thought I was becoming better.
I thought all these changes were necessary to survive.
Until one day, I looked at myself and realized I didn't recognize the person standing there.
So I searched.
Through every memory.
Every version of myself.
Every reflection of the person I used to be.
But the mirrors were empty.
Not one of them remembered me.
Every fracture in my body belonged to a different version of myself.
Every broken piece carried something I had abandoned to become acceptable to someone else.
And the more desperately I tried to put myself back together, the more I fell apart.
Now I kneel among the remains of everyone I have ever been.
My hands reach toward an emptiness I cannot explain.
My mouth is sealed because I no longer know which voice is mine.
And the mirrors?
They don't reflect anything anymore.
Because somewhere between becoming who everyone needed me to be and forgetting who I wanted to become…
I disappeared.
**The cruelest part of losing myself was that I was there for every moment of it.**
And nobody noticed.
Not even me.
