Spania GTA Spano

The Spania GTA Spano (2015-present, second generation) is a limited-production hypercar manufactured by Spania GTA, a Spanish company based in Valencia and a sister entity to GTA Motor Competición. First unveiled as a concept in 2009 at L’Hemisfèric in Valencia and entering production in 2013, the Spano represents founder Domingo Ochoa’s vision to create Spain’s first world-class supercar after 15 years of racing experience. The second-generation model, introduced at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, is a refined evolution with updated styling, enhanced performance, and groundbreaking materials, positioning it as a competitor to hypercars like the Pagani Zonda or Koenigsegg Agera. The Spano is powered by an 8.0L twin-turbocharged V10 engine, derived from the Dodge Viper but modified to produce 925 hp (680 kW) at 6,300 rpm and 1,220 Nm (900 lb-ft) of torque. Paired with a 7-speed paddle-shift automated manual transmission by CIMA, it accelerates from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 2.9 seconds and achieves a top speed of 370 km/h (230 mph), making it one of the fastest production cars of its era. The engine supports bioethanol for sustainability, reflecting a nod to environmental considerations. The car’s lightweight carbon-fiber monocoque chassis, reinforced with graphene, titanium, and Kevlar, weighs just 1,400 kg (3,086 lbs), offering exceptional rigidity and agility. The second-generation Spano’s chassis features innovative graphene integration, developed in collaboration with Spanish nanotechnology firm Graphenano, enhancing structural strength while reducing weight. The suspension system comprises double wishbones with adaptive shock absorbers and a front-axle lift mechanism for added practicality. Braking is handled by 380 mm carbon-ceramic discs with six-piston calipers, ensuring superior stopping power. The car rides on Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires (265/30 ZR19 front, 345/30 ZR20 rear) mounted on forged alloy wheels, contributing to its precise handling. A unique panoramic glass roof with adjustable opacity and an active rear spoiler that optimizes downforce at high speeds add to its technological allure. The exterior design, crafted by designers Domingo Ochoa and Sento Pallardó, is inspired by the “curves of a cheetah,” featuring sleek, aerodynamic lines, butterfly doors, and LED headlights for a distinctive, aggressive look. The carbon-fiber bodywork is both lightweight and visually striking, with a low profile (4.68 m long, 1.98 m wide, 1.18 m high) and a wheelbase of 2.8 m. The interior is a blend of luxury and performance, with custom-made leather seats, carbon-fiber accents, a digital dashboard, and a state-of-the-art infotainment system with touchscreen navigation and a premium sound system. Additional features include a rearview camera, parking sensors, and a built-in fire extinguisher for safety. Limited to 99 units across both generations, the Spano is hand-built in Riba-roja de Túria, Valencia, with production numbers likely lower due to its bespoke nature and slow assembly process. Its exclusivity and performance have earned it a cult following, amplified by appearances in the 2014 film Need for Speed, TV series Ballers, and video games like Forza Horizon and Asphalt 8. Priced around $1 million, the Spano is a collector’s gem, offering a rare blend of Spanish engineering, raw power, and futuristic design. Its “deep, throaty” exhaust note and dramatic styling make it a thrilling embodiment of speed and exclusivity.
