Transient Curated is pleased to present Work Bodies by David V Nun. Work Bodies is a series of animated artworks depicting bodies transfixed and transformed by the screens they consume. The collection includes thirty 1/1 artworks and two open editions.
From the Curator:
Since millions began to work from home in the wake of the pandemic in 2020, the term "Work-life balance" has become much more prevalent, practically inescapable. This balance between a work and personal life is something to be strived for, but the term assumes a separation between the two is possible to begin with. Whatever level of mental separation we achieve, the bodies doing the work are the same.
Work Bodies by David V Nun presents the effects of this work, dramatized, exaggerated, and supercharged. The figures in these works are skeletons with brains and inner organs visible, like a cross section from a medical textbook. As the series title specifies they are bodies more than people. Bodies with bulging eyes capable of viewing, and hands capable of scrolling.
Electricity radiates through them, visible in faint buzzes and glows. It brings a source of energy to their frantic movements. Some of these actions are mundane, like scrolling absorbed by tablet or computer screens, while others are more extreme, transforming into bulls or sprouting additional heads.
While they appear manic and obsessed, it is difficult to say whether or not they are happy. A lack of facial muscles and skin will do that. Instead of their expression, the effects of their work shows in their bodies, in various levels of decay and destruction, doomed to repeat the cycle again.
