Transient Curated is pleased to present Gestures for No One, a series of 40 animated artworks by Ver Clausi. The artworks follow his hand painted process in collaboration with a robotic arm, created by a neural network trained on his past work.

Over time, its deviations became part of my own pictorial language. The paintings we produced together later became the only archive used to train a neural network — a memory built from gestures, repetition and accumulated marks. Then I introduced another archive. Fragments of everyday scenes from anime. Not battles. Not climaxes. A hand lighting a cigarette. A window opening. Someone walking home. A drink from a vending machine. A birthday cake. Small gestures that usually exist only to move a story forward. Filtered through my painted archive, they slowly became something else.
Detached from their original narratives, these scenes began to speak about waiting, solitude and the quiet persistence of ordinary life. I created these forty animations while spending my first birthday alone after moving to the mountains. At first, I thought I was making them for no one. That is where the title came from. But images have their own way of waiting. Perhaps no gesture is ever made for no one. Perhaps every image simply waits until someone, somewhere, is ready to remember it. Gestures For No One is not a project about artificial intelligence. It is about what happens when technologies designed to reproduce images are slowed down enough to recover the fragile gestures from which memory is made. These forty pieces mark my fortieth birthday. They are probably the closest I've come to understanding what I have been searching for all these years as a painter. Images can carry meaning. But meaning is never where they begin. They begin with a gesture. And perhaps every gesture is already a way of remembering.
