#20 − beef brothko (diewiththemostlikes)

Exhibition Poster #20 − beef brothko (diewiththemostlikes) Artist: diewiththemostlikes Collection: Beef Brothko Exhibition: Pawn Stars Marfa Date: September 2023 Beef Brothko. The title announces its reference plainly: Mark Rothko's stacked colour fields, refracted through the lens of the artist’s signature abattoir aesthetics. The 666 works were hand-painted, photographed, then ran through an LLM for die’s first generative collection. Each composition borrows Rothko's formal vocabulary: soft-edged horizontal bands, luminous gradients, meditative composition. But the palette has been brutally ironized. Reds recall not spiritual transcendence but raw tissue. The canvas is a battlefield. Paint drips down like rendering fluids. The work belongs to a lineage of desublimation. Where Rothko sought the sublime, DWTML offers the abject. The gesture is not parody but inversion: the same forms, the same silence, reoriented toward flesh and decay. There is no abstract, no figurative, no revolution. There is only the physical reality of the flesh. Together with Transient Labs, glitch presented Beef Brothko alongside a performative flea market during Art Blocks Weekend 2023 in Marfa, Texas. Hundreds of flea-market goers piled in. Bartering. Yelling. Mayhem. Objects exchanged with atmosphere tipping toward frenzy. The installation collapsed the distance between art fair and debauchery, between acquisition and consumption. While the flea market unfolded, the scene was broadcast on social media. The digital works, made available for .0369 ETH, began trading on the internet, selling out instantly. A performative collapse of the digital, and the very physical.
