Observer Fragments

Observer Fragments

I often contemplate the omnipresent eyes watching us through monitors. Have you ever felt like real, physical eyes were secretly observing you? This work, created with the idea of constant surveillance in mind, invites you to explore this unsettling notion. As you closely examine the piece, you’ll notice small typographic texts attempting to communicate a message, while symbols crafted from letters serve a similar purpose. These elements ask you to see beyond the surface—to grasp the larger picture while focusing on subtle details. It evokes the feeling that your eyes never truly close, leaving you unsure of what to see or what is watching you. The recurring presence of old computer monitors reinforces the idea of technology as a modern-day observer, reminiscent of the surveillance-heavy societies we find ourselves in. The chaotic arrangement of imagery, text, and symbols reflects the complexity and overload of information we encounter daily, making it difficult to discern what’s important and what might be watching us in return. The seemingly disjointed typographic elements and layered visuals compel the viewer to dive deeper, searching for meaning amidst the noise. This chaotic visual structure echoes the paradox of the digital age: the more we see, the less we perceive. The phrase 'eyes not closing' in the center emphasizes that this observation is relentless—there is no escape from the gaze. The piece draws on a dystopian vision, where humans and machines are in constant interaction, yet the boundaries between observer and observed blur. This world, where eyes never close and the gaze never softens, is a reflection of our present reality, a nod to Orwell’s prophetic warnings about perpetual surveillance. To conclude, I’d like to end with this quote from George Orwell: 'Always the eyes watching you and the voice enveloping you. Asleep or awake, indoors or out of doors, in the bath or bed—no escape. Nothing was your own except the few cubic centimeters inside your skull.'
