Purple Valley Beringin

An artistic interpretation of the Balinese perspective on sacred nature, inspired by a ritual at the Bayan Tree in Bali. As a link between the material and spiritual realms, the Balinese believe that trees possess unseen electromagnetic fields. This piece is both a historical record and a poetic exploration of something unseen but deeply felt: the energy that permeates and connects all of nature. The work begins with a narration in Bahasa, Indonesia’s native language, explaining the significance of trees and the vitality they provide to the natural world. At the heart of the composition, the Bayan Tree materializes, embodying the ancient tree and its spiritual significance. In a symbolic act of universal connection, the tree gradually transforms into the Brazilian tree where my grandfather’s ashes were laid to rest, drawing an invisible link between two distant worlds — Indonesia, in the heart of Southeast Asia, and Brazil, across the immensity of South America. This artwork was created during the Bali Art Residency, 2024.
