No Face, No Name
He stands in a quiet room with his back to us. Where his head should be there is only red, burning upward like something that could not stay inside anymore. A snake is wrapped around him from the floor to his shoulder. It is not biting. Its mouth is closed. It rests near his neck and looks out at the room, like it is keeping watch. Light comes in from the window. There is a sofa nobody is sitting on, and a chair with a few roses in a vase. Everything in the room is still, except the fire where his face used to be. You can't see who he is. You don't get his eyes or his name. But you can see everything he is carrying. Sometimes that tells you more about a person than a face ever could. Why I Made This: I made this for the people who stay hidden on purpose. Some of us don't show our face to the world. Not because we are fake, but because we learned that being seen by everyone is not the same as being known. So we keep things private. We blend in. We choose very carefully who gets to see the real thing. The snake is the part most people get wrong. They see it and think danger. But look at it again. It's calm. It isn't hurting him. To me the snake is everything he went through: the broken trust, the hard nights, the people who were not loyal. It didn't leave. So he stopped fighting it, and now it guards him instead. The fire is what's left when you take away the face and the name. It's just the person. What they feel, what they survived. And I put the roses there on purpose. A rose doesn't need a name to be a rose. Neither does he. If you have ever kept yourself hidden and still wanted one person to really see you, this piece is yours.
