The Sudden Static of Goodbye
The morning starts with routine
The click of a keyboard
The hum of the overhead lights
And then
The news hits like a corrupted file.
That eye was just looking at a screen
That face was just part of the architecture of the workday
But cancer is a system crash
An unannounced deletion.
The solid gray of a normal Friday twists into jagged stairs
An escalator to nowhere
The world glitches out in bright pinks and artificial yellows
Because the reality we built together cannot sustain this absence.
You are left standing at the base of a collapsing monument
A human being reduced to data artifacts and memories
Trying to find the face in the fragments
Before the screen goes completely dark.
