LOVESCAPES #11 - Behind the Ferris Wheel
In 2021, I went to the Utah State Fair by myself. I didn't go for the food or the prizes. I went to take pictures and people watch. (Carnivals are an incredible place to do that.)
As the evening became darker and the rides turned their lights on, the magic of the night grew. I wandered in circles between the rides and vendors, looking to document some of the nostalgia I associate with the state fair.
As discretely as I could, I set up a shot of this couple sitting between the Ferris Wheel and a food truck. The woman reached her hand out, the moment peaked, and I took the photo. The lighting and vivid colors made the tenderness of the scene cinematic. An abandoned beer can and the masked boy looking back from his father's shoulders complete the scene in a Gregory Crewdson-esque way.
