**Where it started.** I began with a single HTML file: a Windows 95 collage of blue-screen crashes, "Are you feeling OK?" dialogs, a Paint window, tofu boxes and a tower of repeating text. I wanted nothing in it to be keyframed. Every window, cursor, CD and ring of the tower is a "vehicle" from Craig Reynolds' steering-behaviours paper. Windows glide home with Arrival and shiver with Wander. They run from your pointer with Flee. The CDs flock around the computer, and the tower sways like a snake through Leader Following. I cut each window into horizontal strips that flee sideways on their own, and that became the glitch. **Pushing it further.** I set out to make it ten times more complex, but the original file wasn't saved anywhere I could edit it. All I had was a screenshot and the pasted code. Rewriting 40 KB in one pass would have risked cutting off mid-file, so I rebuilt a leaner version on the same steering engine and layered new systems on top. - **Mouse trails:** the cursors got six-ghost trails. - **Data swarm:** 160 bits flock around a leader and flee the cursors. - **Viruses:** two red viruses pursue the cursors, and the cursors evade them. - **Pop-ups:** clicks spawn windows that arrive, sort themselves by depth, then flee off-screen. - **Shockwave:** every click sends a wave down the tower. **Bringing the missing pieces back.** The lean rebuild had dropped the toolbar, the paper stack, the flag, the column, the crosses and the vertical text. I restored all of them and redrew Paint and the computer in full detail. **Breaking the picture.** I hand-built a post-processing pipeline instead of using a stock composer. It does RGB split, band tearing, pixelation and a datamosh trick where blocks freeze on the previous frame. One live glitch level drives all of it, rising when windows break, cursors click or a virus makes a catch. An FX button turns it off for weaker phones. **Making it rare.** Finally I added scarcity. Each visit rolls a Common, Rare or Legendary tier. Rare tints the image green. Legendary adds a rainbow foil shimmer. Both make strange events more likely. - **Golden CD:** it sometimes drifts through and dodges the cursors. Catching it turns the whole swarm gold. - **Blue screen:** now and then the whole screen collapses into a BSOD and "restarts". Every window arrives back from wherever it was thrown. **What's still unfinished.** It never reached a literal ten times the complexity. I syntax-checked the code but haven't verified it visually on a real device, so the tuning of the effects and the odds is still open.
