DIBIA AND THE MASQUERADE

Primal Transfiguration

Primal Transfiguration is the sixth piece in the Dibia and the Masquerade series. In this piece, we see the were-Leopard in mid-transformation as his human flesh gives way. His body becomes consumed by the leopard features and his mind is replaced with the primal bloodlust that is associated with his new being. The transformation of a were-leopard is a fascinating illusion that plays on our perception of reality. At first, the were-leopard appears to be a normal human being, but as the transformation begins, the illusion takes hold and we see the human body contort and twist in ways that seem impossible. Bones elongate, muscles bulge, and hair sprouts from every pore as the human form is consumed by the beast within. But perhaps the most powerful element of the illusion is the psychological effect it has on the viewer. We are primed to see humans as fundamentally different from animals, and so the sight of a person transforming into a leopard-like creature challenges our perceptions of what is real and what is possible. It taps into our primal fears and instincts, leaving us in awe of the power of illusion and the mysterious forces that lie just beneath the surface of our everyday lives.
