Triptychs for 72 Solar Eclipses
August 12th 2026, a total solar eclipse crossed continental Europe, the first visible here since August 11th 1999.
The word eclipse comes from the Greek ekleipsis, “a leaving out.”
Against that omission stands phaínesthai: to come into appearance.
Sun is a triptych consisting of a system poem, which regularises the noun column of a 2011 precursor system poem, in addition to three short video sequences: Aperture, Augury, and Apparition.
The core of the work is a 10-ten word grid, which can generate 72 unique variants; one variant for each of the 72 cycles in Saros 126.
