Comments: After Lee and I landed in Jamaica. We were riding on the freeway to meet with Chris Blackwell at his James Bond hotel. Our drive Chris ripped by on the highway and I noticed a fruit stand on the side of the road. A bag of jackfruits caught my eye, and Ackee for Lee. We asked Chris to turn around and he drifted into the lane to head back to the stop for some fruits and coconuts. The woman managing the fruit stand name is Tass. We bought up all her fruit! A laundry list of Soursop, Sweetsop, Breadfruit, Jackfruit, Pineapple, Ackee, Mangoes and Guavas too. Enough to last us the few days we were visiting the island. We thrived on fruit and Ital food. We stuffed the trunk with all the fruits and carried on to our beach bungalows. The first night we were here there was a reggae concert and drum circle. A bright yellow harvest moon illuminated the night sky, the giant fire glowing on the Earth. People dancing and singing around the fire. It was a special and soulful punky Reggae party. The music and the fire connected us deeply. Without any words shared, just the sounds of the waves crashing, the fire crackling, the crickets clicking, the people laughing and humming, while the drums beating. My soul starved for this connection; The music was working, it was healing. It was dinner time and we all sat at a table with the legend himself, the man who made this place and Island Records. Bob Marley's record label and friend. It was an iconic night and made me feel closer to the music I grew up listening to. Bob's songs always felt righteous and biblical. Real and human. A man of the people that brought people together through his music.
