Comments: Esteban met with me early in the morning before the flight to Rio, Brazil. Right when Santa Lucía Hill park opened we took a stroll inside. We walked and talked to get to know each other better. He too was a fellow photographer from the NFT space. There was a fountain we found and I noticed there was a San Pedro cactus growing above it. I asked if he knew what that cactus symbolized, and he responded, you mean Huachuma? Yes! We bonded over the sacred medicine and it was the first time I realized it was common outside of California and Peru. Chile too has rituals and practices for this sacred plant medicine. In that moment I decided to create Estabans portrait, with the cactus as a cameo, and playing around with framing with the steel circles that were the boundaries in the circular garden. He did not know what to do at first so I directed him to walk up to me and reach his hand out to grab the camera. It was the first time doing something like this in the project and had a really neat effect. Always try something new, and what goes around comes around, especially when your in a circular park!
