Moments in Time
Vijayadashami
Vijayadashami / Dussehra is a major Hindu festival celebrated to mark God Ram's victory over the Rakshasa king Ravana. The celebration of this festival is founded in the epic ‘Ramayana’.
Towering effigies of Ravana, symbolising evil, are burnt with fireworks, marking evil's destruction. The festival also starts the preparations for Diwali, the important festival of lights, which is celebrated twenty days after Vijayadashami.
I photographed this image in one such celebration near my Hometown. There were thousands of people in the ground, & the enthusiasm was at all time high, as all social gatherings were prohibited for the last 2 years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
