This photo was taken during the Ganga Aarti on the Dashashwamedh Ghat in Kashi. The air was filled with the scent of incense and the soft sound of chanting, and just as the priest threw the petals, they seemed to hang in the air for a second — like time slowed down. It was such a peaceful, powerful moment. You could really feel the energy of this place, the devotion, the history… all of it coming together under that night sky. There's a sense of surrender here — not just to tradition, but to something timeless. You don’t just see the ritual; you feel the weight of centuries behind it, whispered through incense, flame, flowers and faith. The Ganga Aarti is performed by seven priests & follows a sequence meant to evoke a divine ambiance, with each movement symbolizing a gesture of gratitude to the Ganges – The Sacred River. 1. Blowing the Conch Shell (Shankh): Marks the start. Believed to remove negativity and welcome positivity. 2. Waving Incense (Agarbatti): Purify the surroundings and are believed to attract positive energy. 3. Circling Brass Lamps (Deepak): Large, multi-tiered lamps with several diya flames represent light and purity. 4. Chanting Sacred Hymns (Mantra): The sounds of Vedic mantras fill the air, creating a spiritually charged atmosphere. 5. Offering Flowers (Pushpanjali): Fresh flower offerings symbolize love and reverence toward the Ganges.
