THE ROOM I NEVER BELONGED TO
There are places that look like home from a distance. We enter them, learn their silence, memorize the shape of their walls, and still remain strangers. The absence here is not the absence of a place, but the absence of the feeling of belonging to it.
An empty chair, as if someone has just left, or perhaps as if the chair has always been waiting for someone else. The room holds the possibility of belonging without ever offering it.
Sometimes loneliness is not being alone. Sometimes it is realizing that there is nowhere in the world that feels entirely yours.
