In 2021, my family went on a road trip through the Eastern United States to visit some of the historical sites relevant to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ("The Mormons"). This photo was taken not far from the birthplace of the Joseph Smith, who in 1820 in Upstate New York, would claim to have been visited by two angelic personages (God the Father and Jesus Christ) in a grove of trees after praying to know which of all the churches around him he should join. While this is not the site of that experience, the golden, syrupy light piercing below the treeline reminded me of that story I grew up hearing.
