After a fun day at the Salt Flats with some friends from school, we were leaving to make the 2+ hour drive back home. While everyone was getting into their cars, I took this photograph—which quickly and permanently became one of my favorite images I've ever made. The glow of the rest stop bathroom, the reflection of the distant mountains on the flooded salt flats, and the awed observer, walking their dog, all came together into a single scene that filled me with wonder. Man and nature, permanence and transience, all in one image. I used this image as the title of my debut photo book, Between Places (2020).
