We take the Sun for granted. It rises and sets, constant and expected. The winter solstice—the longest night—is when we truly feel its absence and value the energy it gives. This is what came to mind when I saw, and photographed, this sea anemone in total underwater darkness. By day, it is a pale, beige creature. But at night, under ultraviolet light, it reveals its hidden heart: a brilliant, glowing orb—a Night Sun captured in a single frame. The Story of the Shot: This image is the result of my "Fluor Diving" journey—the pursuit of capturing corals and anemones that glow under ultraviolet light. The idea stuck with me, but the path was obscure. Information was scarce. The gear list grew: special UV lights, barrier filters, and complex flash setups, transforming an already intricate underwater camera into a specialized scientific instrument. The greatest challenge wasn't technical, but social. On a night dive, I had to convince my buddy to leave me behind in the blackness. The white light from any dive lamp instantly kills the fragile UV magic we seek. After sunset, I let the group swim ahead, their lights fading into the distance. In the resulting total darkness, I switched on my ultraviolet beam. Suddenly, on the side of a wreck, a bright yellow spot ignited. The humble, pale anemone was now a radiant sun in the void. This is that solitary, luminous moment—a secret of the sea, now a 1/1 digital artifact. "The Night Sun" is the inaugural piece in my 1/1 series, Underwater Stories: The One and Only. This collection is dedicated to the rarest, most technically demanding moments I capture beneath the waves—each a unique, singular story. This photograph, 'The Night Sun,' was selected as a finalist in the prestigious 5th Annual 35awards Global Photo Contest in 2019. It also played a part in my achievement of being ranked among the TOP 35 Underwater Photographers worldwide that year. The collector of this NFT is entitled to receive a large jpeg and a huge Hi-res TIFF file suitable for archival printing.
