The Frog Muse
Giorgio de Chirico’s Le Muse Inquietanti presents mannequin-like figures inhabiting vast, desolate squares. These faceless beings, flanked by fragments of classical statuary and overshadowed by deserted factories, embody estrangement and the collapse of classical harmony. In their immobility, they radiate an uncanny stillness, half ancient, half industrial, that unsettles rather than consoles. De Chirico’s metaphysical vision became a cornerstone for Surrealism, turning painting into a stage of enigmatic silence.
