Raphael’s School of Athens crystallizes the Renaissance vision of philosophy as harmony and order. Within a majestic architectural setting inspired by classical antiquity, Plato, Aristotle, and the great thinkers of history gather in dialogue. The figures are monumental yet graceful, their gestures woven into a choreography of intellect. Perspective organizes the scene into a rational cosmos, turning the fresco into a celebration of human reason as divine order. This work recalls the fresco textures of Raphael’s Stanze Vaticane: soaring arches, luminous space, and balanced composition. Among the philosophers, Pepe slips into the assembly, comic sage amid the pantheon of wisdom, parodying humanism while inhabiting its grandeur.
