The Birth of Pepe
Botticelli’s Birth of Venus reawakened the language of classical mythology, casting it in a poetic, Neoplatonic light. Venus rising from the sea symbolized not only sensual beauty but also divine harmony, a fusion of pagan myth with Christian spirituality. Through linear grace, delicate contours, and pastel luminosity, Botticelli created a dreamlike vision that transcends naturalism, elevating the image into an allegory of cosmic and moral beauty. This piece recalls tempera on panel with flowing outlines, elongated forms, and soft chromatic transitions. Upon the seashell stands Pepe, playfully intruding on the goddess’s role, disrupting her aura of divinity while echoing Botticelli’s rhythm and ethereal elegance.
