My grandfather served in the United States Navy, was a chef, and a man of little words with powerful presence. I have the word grandfather in kanji writing tattooed on my right arm out of love and respect for him. He and my grandmother were married for 51 years. I have a small gong that he brought back from overseas when he served in the navy to remind me of him. This little man that sits on my shelf is something small that he got so much joy and laughter from. I hope he got as much of a laugh out of me using this character and losing my shoe in the river making this digital art as he did while he was still with us.
